“Life... a comic tragedy, a tragic comedy, or a walk in the woods”

‘Welcome to the Woods’ is “Revolutionary Road meets Little Red Riding Hood.” Its series of remarkable dialogues unfolds like a tragic-comedy, or is it a comic-tragedy? Three actors find themselves in a wonderfully bizarre fairy-tale-like world, where nature, sex, imagination, and religion come together in an unusual discussion about the significance (and insignificance) of life and meaning.

This typical Dutch play was written by one of Holland’s most iconic playwrights / filmmakers who has been awarded numerous prestigious European theatre and film prizes. It takes us to a slightly alienated universe in which a woman’s flee from the life she’s leading turns into a prison she can’t escape. ‘Welcome to the Woods’ is a true Van Warmerdam play: surprising, intriguing, and mercilessly funny.

PRESS

"If word of mouth is still what packs a show, you better hurry if you want to experience witty, unusual and honest theatre! ... Erwin Maas' direction is a breath of fresh air, pushing his cast to extremes and taking risk ... what he orchestrates is a funny, devastating and eye-catching portrait." - Antonio Minino (The Happiest Medium)

"Sometimes we go see a show in New York and we get to see something that makes us proud and happy to reside in a city that offers such rich, original, creative and thoughtful theater - 'Welcome to the Woods' is one of those things ... The kind of theater that makes actors want to be actors ... With great performances, an interesting and funny script and solid direction, this show is a winner! ... Maas has done a wonderful job!" - Darron Cardosa (Theatre is easy.com)
