![]() | Special Fulbright FellowshipJuly 2, 2009Celebrating 400 years of Dutch-American friendship and the 60th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in the Netherlands, a special scholarship has been created to commemorate the longstanding relationships between the Netherlands and the United States. The Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the U.S. State Department, together with the Netherland-America Foundation and the Holland America Friendship Foundation, have created a special scholarship to enable one student at the graduate level (Master’s Degree or PhD) to study or conduct research in the Netherlands for one academic year. The scholarship will be available for the 2010-2011 academic year only. Applicants from any field may apply, as long as their proposed project is devoted to the study of (an) aspect(s) of the longstanding relationship between the Netherlands and the United States. Language A working knowledge of Dutch is useful at the time of arrival in the Netherlands. University lectures are in both English and Dutch. Value of grant The scholarship consists of a monthly allowance of € 1.050 for a period of 9 months, and an additional allowance of € 8.500 which can be used to cover the cost of tuition and fees and/orto cover special research expenses. In addition, the cost of international travel will be reimbursed to a maximum of € 1.000, as well as the cost of the residence permit. Grant duration/period 9 months. Scholarship must start September 1, 2010. Candidate profile The Fulbright Commission in the Netherlands especially wishes to attract students working toward their Ph.D. degrees who can carry out well-formulated, independent research projects with limited supervision by Dutch scholars. The Commission also encourages applications from graduate students whose projects involve full-time graduate study, or combine research and graduate advanced courses and seminars, at Dutch institutions where English is the working language. Factors affecting eligibility U.S. students currently residing in the Netherlands will not be considered. Affiliation Candidates obtain their own placements and must furnish proof of acceptance from an academic institution or letters of affiliation from appropriate Dutch specialists to be considered for a scholarship. Applications will be considered from well-qualified candidates in all fields if projects can be carried out in Dutch institutions of higher learning or by using Dutch archival sources. General comments Applicants should be aware that tuition waivers are rarely given. Waivers of tuition fees are at the discretion of the Dutch educational institution, and applicants are responsible for requesting waivers. In the event a fee waiver is not granted, candidates should be aware the Fulbright award does not provide the cost of these fees. Dependents: No dependent allowance is available. Contact: Websites: |
