The Netherland-America Foundation is one of the charitable organizations that have been selected by the New York Road Runners (NYRR) to participate in the "Community Charity Program" organized in connection with the ING New York City Marathon 2010. As such, the NAF has five guaranteed entries to the 2010 ING New York City Marathon. Anyone is eligible to apply for one of these coveted entries. What's the catch? Applicants must agree to:
*As each grant costs $17,500; the total being raised for the NAF-Fulbright Fellowship program is $35,000. BACKGROUND: The survival of childen with cancer has increased substantially (to 70%) over the last decade. As remarkable as this survival rate is, 30% do not survive. Though less common than cancer in adults, pediatric cancer receives a disproportionate amount--only five percent--of all public and private cancer research funds raised. In an effort to increase the childhood cancer survival odds, the NAF and the Dutch Foundation for Children Kankervrij (KIKA) are teaming up with runners in the ING New York City Marathon. Runners seek sponsorship to help underwrite the exchange of American and Dutch scientists via NAF-Fulbright Fellowships (for research into childhood cancer in the Netherlands and the U.S.). We are asking you to help increase the levels of funding for research into cancer for the youngest victims of this disease. In 2009, runners helped the NAF and KIKA to raise over $60,000 of which $35,000 was earmarked for NAF-Fulbright Fellowships. Sponsors pledged and paid their fees online, simplifying sign-ups and collections for the runners. Click here to read the whole report on the 2009 marathon. Apply NOW to be one of the five lucky 2010 ING New York City Marathon runners to receive a guaranteed entry and to help raise money for this worthy cause. Running slots will go to the first five sign-ups, so don't delay. If you have any questions, please contact Angela Molenaar at amolenaar@thenaf.org or call 212.825.1221. On behalf KIKA and the children, we thank you in advance for your commitment and enthusiasm. Gaius Voûte The Netherland-America Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
